Why You’ll Go Hog Wild for This Recipe
Maximum Bacon, Maximum Flavor: Unlike some recipes, every inch of the frank is covered in smoky, crispy bacon!
Irresistible Texture: You’ll love how the air fryer makes the bacon perfectly crispy while keeping the hot dog juicy inside.
Quick and Easy: Minimal prep and fast cooking time mean you can satisfy your bacon cravings any time!
Ingredients and Substitutions
You’ll only need three ingredients to make this bacon hot dog recipe:

Bacon – You can use regular or thick sliced bacon, smoked or unsmoked – the choice is yours!
Hot dogs – I used Hebrew National all-beef jumbo hot dogs, but you can use your favorite type and brand.
Buns – The buns I used are split down the middle, and are often used for lobster rolls. You can use any type of sandwich bun or hoagie roll you like.
Equipment Needed
Besides toothpicks, the main equipment you’ll need for this recipe is an air fryer.
I’ll link to the Chefman 6 quart air fryer we use in our home kitchen. The basket size is just right for our family, it crisps evenly, and overall I have been very happy with it.
If you don’t have an air fryer, no problem. I’ve included directions below for cooking the bacon dogs in the oven.
Step by Step Instructions
STEP ONE: Arrange three layers of food safe paper towels on a microwave safe plate. Lay four strips of bacon on top.
STEP TWO: Microwave on medium power (50%) until the bacon is partially cooked but still flexible. In my microwave this took 3 1/2 minutes. Repeat with the remaining four strips of bacon and set aside.

STEP THREE: Place one hot dog in the center of a work surface. Wrap the first piece of bacon around half of the hotdog in a spiral. Securing with toothpicks, wrap the second piece of bacon on the bottom half of the hotdog in the same way. Repeat with remaining bacon strips and hot dogs.

Cook at 350 degrees F until the hotdogs are cooked through and the bacon is golden brown and crispy. In my air fryer, this took about eight minutes, but cooking times vary so keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.
Optional – if you want toasted buns, split the hotdog buns and arrange them on a baking sheet. Cooking a 350 degree F oven until lightly browned, about eight minutes.
Remove the toothpicks from the hotdog and arrange them in the buns.

Serve and enjoy!

Oven Directions
No air fryer? Here’s how to make these jumbo bacon dogs in the oven.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place the bacon-wrapped hot dogs on a foil-lined baking sheet fitted with a wire rack (or directly on the foil for easier cleanup).
Bake for 15–20 minutes, turning halfway through, until the hot dogs are heated through and the bacon is golden brown and crisp. Drain and serve on toasted buns.
How to Store and Reheat Leftovers

Cool the bacon wrapped hot dogs completely, and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, warm them in the air fryer at 350 degrees F until hot and crispy, about 5 minutes, or in the oven at 400 degrees F until heated through and crispy.
What to Put On Bacon Wrapped Hotdogs?
The bacon-wrapped dogs are really good as is, but if you want to add a little extra flavor these are some of our favorite toppings and condiments:
- Ketchup
- Mustard
- BBQ Sauce
- Onions – either raw or cooked. (Pro tip: I like to soak chopped onion in ice water for a few minutes and drain before putting on the dogs. The process makes the onions mild and crisp.)
- Relish
- Sauerkraut
