Crispy bacon, cheddar cheese and spicy mustard are wrapped in puff pastry and baked until golden brown for these easy breakfast turnovers. Perfect for brunch, parties, appetizers and snacking!
1sheetfrozen puff pastry dough, thawed, from a 17.3 ounce package
2 2/3tablespoonsspicy mustard
8slicessharp cheddar cheese
1largeegg, beaten
1tablespoonwater
Instructions
Begin by cooking 12 strips of bacon until brown and crispy. You can cook the bacon in the oven or in a frying pan over medium heat. Drain on paper towels.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Fit a piece of parchment paper on a half sheet pan or baking sheet.
Move the parchment to a flat work surface and roll out the puff pastry dough on top.
Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the puff pastry sheet into 8 equal rectangles. Slide the parchment paper with the pastry squares onto the baking sheet.
Spread 1 teaspoon prepared mustard evenly on each of the puff pastry rectangles.
Add a slice of cheese on top of the mustard layer for each rectangle. Place a strip of bacon diagonally across each rectangle and add another half a strip in the center of each pastry.
To wrap the bacon in pastry, pull the top left corner down to the center and then overlap it with the opposite corner on the bottom right.
Seal the edges of the pastry by pinching together tightly. Repeat the process for all the puff pastry turnovers.
Make a simple egg wash by whisking 1 beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Using a pastry brush, brush the egg wash on the top of each turnover.
Bake the turnovers in the preheated oven until the cheese melts, the bacon is crispy, and the pastry turns a beautiful golden brown, about 15 minutes.
Cool for about 5 minutes before serving. Makes 8 bacon and cheese turnovers.
