Bacon skewers can be served at brunch buffets or as a party appetizer. They also make great swizzle sticks as a fun, easy garnish for Bloody Marys. Everyone loves bacon on a stick!
Fill a 9- by 13-inch baking dish halfway with room temperature water. Soak the bamboo skewers for 1 hour. Just before using, remove from water and drain on paper towels.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, and cut a piece of parchment paper to fit on top.
Pre-fold a bacon slice accordion style, making a fold about every inch. Place the little folded bundle on your cutting board and press the pointed end of the skewer through the middle.
Gently slide the bacon strip down the skewer until it’s spaced out but has a few ripples. Arrange bacon strips on prepared baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated until crispy and golden brown, turning once. Exact cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of your bacon, but in our test kitchen oven this took about 45 minutes.
Drain bacon on paper towels and serve.
Optional Add-Ons
If you like, you can add extra flavor to the bacon sticks by brushing the strips generously with barbecue sauce or maple syrup before baking. Alternately, you can add a spicy kick by sprinkling the bacon skewers with freshly ground black pepper or lightly sprinkling with cayenne pepper.
Notes
Leftover bacon on a stick can be wrapped tightly and refrigerated for up to 2 days.To reheat, spread bacon skewers on a baking sheet and cook in a 325 degree F oven until they just begin to sizzle, about 8 minutes.Tip: Cut the sharp tips off of the bamboo skewers with kitchen shears, especially if serving to children.
